Never be hasty in judging friends and enemies in business
2007年 04月 27日
I may not look it, but I have a hot temper.
I always keep myself calm and mild at home, with which rebound I’m sometimes so hard on people when I’m in business.
To be exact, I used to be such a person before. But, after experiencing a lot of things in society, now I’m always trying to conceal such my temper deep in mind. So even when I’m very irritated and angry with somebody, I never show it in communication.
Sometimes I can feel I’m right in doing so, especially when what seems to be a very big problem turns out to be not so problematic later.
A news reporter gave me a call yesterday and we talked over the project of my office which he wanted to cover. His manner of speech and question sounded very rude and sometimes very very defiant to me. I was almost hanging up in a huff. But I forced myself to be patient and kept myself as calm as possible.
He gave me a call today again. Upon hearing his voice over the receiver, I became very cautious. But it was a call to thank me for yesterday’s information. He gave me a call because he successfully finished writing up a story by the due. His manner of speech and tone of the voice was completely different from what I heard yesterday.
Again I leaned that I shouldn’t judge things without giving much consideration, especially when I evaluate people. We are educated to behave in the same way with anybody at any time. But it is very difficult to perform it actually. We often change our attitude depending on the situation we are in, depending on the conflicts of interest in a certain relationship, and depending on the whim of the day. So even when I’m so hurt or irritated by someone’s speech or attitude, I shouldn’t take it at face value. When I have a time to revaluate it later, it could be very different evaluation. So I shall never be hasty to judge or evaluate people so soon or with a single accidental event.
That’s what I learned today.
