USCPA offline meeting in Osaka

I joined in a regular USCPA offline meeting in Osaka today. The term “meeting” sounds very official, but it was just another casual drinking session, as we often have with our friends (what we call “飲み会” in Japanese!)
11 people gathered there: some were regular members, and we also had some newcomers. As always, the participants had various backgrounds: some were with professional career in the accounting dept; and there was a professional auditor; one of us was a system engineer; one was a CPA holder who runs a company in the real estate business; and we also had a young CPA holder who has just graduated from university…
Obviously, it was so interesting and exciting to exchange information with such a variety of people! これだけ多彩な集まりになったけれど、still we had one thing in common: “Let us pass the USCPA exam! ”

At the bar, someone said, 「普通の異業種交流会も参加した経験がありますが、やっぱり違いますね。

Yeah, right! Talking with such a variety of people is fun and exciting only when you can ACCEPT & RESPECT those people in mind, which, however, is NOT as easy as is often said.
It’d take more time before you can let your guard down.

Though we can communicate with people of different age in the office, again we cannot talk as freely, because our relationship with colleagues and bosses in the office could somehow affect our business tomorrow.

But, in the USCPA offline meeting, I really enjoyed talking with those people who gathered there. Some were senior to me, and others were junior to me in age. But it wasn’t a barrier at all. Our values or our way of thinking were partly affected by our professional career, which are sometimes very different from each other. But, again, it wasn’t a barrier at all. All the participants there were very kind: it was very kind of them to have me communicate with them as freely as I wished. And I could do so because I felt we had something in common: passion for defeating “USCPA exam.”

I really enjoyed the meeting, got carried away...... and got drunk.

On our way back to the station, someone said to me, “nn, you are drunk.”

…..I’m sorry. I’m very sorry if I said or did something inappropriate, being intoxicated…

But it wasn’t 6 shots of whiskey (double, on the rocks) that made me drunk.

I got drunk by those wonderful talks with wonderful friends there! Thank you all!
And let me give a special thanks to mamo-san, who has organized such a wonderful party for us!
I’m really looking forward to seeing you guys again in June, when I’m supposed to work as an organizer. See you again!
