Golf again?

When I was having a sesh last night, I was recommended to play golf. Talking about golf, it seems K.T. san is also enjoying playing golf when he has time. But I’ve been hesitant for a long time because I know I’m not cut out for doing sports since I was born. Besides, it costs a lot to play golf. But it seems playing golf is one of the major social exchanges. Fortunately, I have a set of golf clubs, which was given to me when the former owner (and my business acquaintance) bought a new set. And I went out to play golf on the golf course with colleagues several years ago, my record was 176. I earned the booby prize twice in my life. If I resume playing golf, then, no wonder that I should practice it somehow so as not to bother others on the golf course. There still remain a lot for me to learn in my life. Hahaha.

keep doing things EVERYDAY

I went to a tennis club of the local community with my wife.
I joined in the lesson 10 times in a row and today it was the last lesson.
We enjoyed playing a game several times and the lesson was successfully over.
I think my form has improved a little, considering that I was quite a beginner when I joined in this club 2 months ago. But, I’m still a lousy tennis player. Maybe I gotta keep practicing so as to be able to enjoy playing tennis more.
Throughout this experience I leaned the importance of physical exercise. When I was moving in an office of a bank, I was busy running here and there in and out of the office. But, since I was moved to the current working place and assigned to design homepages in front of the computer, I didn’t move an inch during the daytime. Naturally, my eyesight got worse, and I gained much fat than is needed.
In the last two months, I lost my weight by about 4 kg with the length around my belly shortened by 9cm.
It’s not only tennis that helped me in losing my weight.

Upon reading this article of K.T san’s blog,
http://blog.goo.ne.jp/mr23ki51/d/20070224
I started doing sit-ups everyday and I’ve kept doing it since then.
And it worked out.
As he said in the article, keep doing things EVERYDAY certainly makes a difference.

Ah, yeah. I know I have many other things that I have to do everyday. (>_<)

Seasons

(I play tennis with my wife every Saturday.)

It’s getting hotter and more humid in Japan these days. Summer is just around the corner. The distinct differences of four seasons (Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Winter) are the things you can enjoy here in this country. And, when you feel the season is changing, you can also feel one phase of your life is now being over and something new is waiting for you at the next phase.

Playing tennis is fun

Since I joined in a tennis lesson last week, I’ve been thinking that I have to practice more to be able to hit the ball better. That’s the matter of my form in stroke. I’m very conscious about the necessary steps to make a good form ― until I face the ball. When the ball appears in front of me, I get in a slight panic, being upset, and finally hit the ball in a strange form. I needed to practice more, but I knew all the tennis court should be booked in this Golden Week.
I was mumbling this at breakfast when my wife suggested that I try “auto-tennis” (automated tennis practicing machine).

In the afternoon I was in an indoor sports facility where I can use the auto-tennis machine. The machine fire me a ball 50 times every time I put 300 yen (about US$2.50).
You can select the types of shoot, course, and speed when you put the coin in the machine. I chose the slowest one, of course, and adjusted so that the ball comes in the same course all the time. Then the machine started shooting a ball one by one, every 10 seconds or so. The ball drops at the exactly same spot every time, so that I can concentrate on my form rather than hitting the ball back.

After I hit 50 balls, the machine stopped, waiting for another 300 yen. I gave it another 300 yen, and this time I adjusted so that the ball comes in various course in a random manner. Then the machine started again, firing the ball in the right, in the left and in the center of the court in random order. I practiced my backhand stroke when the ball dropped on the left side (I’m dextral).

In this manner, I hit 200 balls by the time I left the gym.
It seems my form improved a little. I hope I will do better in the next tennis lesson!

I was mumbling this at breakfast when my wife suggested that I try “auto-tennis” (automated tennis practicing machine).

なんとなく、whenを”I was mumbling…”
When I was mumbling this at breakfast, my wife suggested that I try “auto-tennis” (automated tennis practicing machine).

I was mumbling this at breakfast when my wife suggested that I try “auto-tennis” (automated tennis practicing machine).

Début as a tennis player

I awoke slowly, confirming the health condition of myself. The cold lingering for a week is almost going away. The headache is gone. But I’m still suffering from the snuffles, which is actually very troublesome because I cannot concentrate on things with my nose stuffed up. So I was reluctant to get out of the bed. There’s another reason that makes me feel reluctant; She’s gonna take me to the tennis club activity of the local community.
We applied to join in the tennis club the other day. The lesson is held every Saturday, which started since last Saturday, when my terrible cold also started. (>_<) So, my wife attended the first lesson on last Saturday though I skipped it.
And seven days passed since then. It’s gonna be the second lesson today. If I skipped the lesson twice in a row, I wouldn’t be able to make up for the delay because I’m quite a beginner. I’m the last person who would enjoy playing sports in the weekends…

We rode the bicycle to the nearby tennis courts, where I found the members are already gathering. Most of them were middle aged, maybe senior to me, and some were younger than I --- most of all were ladies… They all seemed very experienced. Only I was in the brand-new cheap sweat suits, which I just bought the other day.

The lesson started with a running around the court and the following gentle stretching exercise, which was enough to make me so much exhausted! I’ve never had such exercise since the hand ball club activity in the junior high school!

But the warm-up exercise was the hardest part of the day. Once the lesson started, two coaches give a lesson to about 20 members. So I can have a break till my turn comes (^_^)

Today I learned how to hold the racket and hit the ball in forehand stroke and in backhand stroke. In the lesson, I did well, except that I stepped on my own shoelace and toppled down. ( >_< )

The next lesson is on the next Saturday. I have to recover from the cold by then. And also, I have to resume my bookkeeping study as well…

I cannot concentrate on things with my nose stuffed up.

Don’t speak with your mouth full.
He was there with his hat on.

Do I look porky?

Today I visited my grandfather in a hospital.
I wish he could live in health as long as possible.

Nearby his room I found those instruments to measure the body size, which I tried out of curiosity.

Height: 173 cm
Weight: 65 kg
Waist measurement ・・・

???

Wait. Wait a minute. I must have used the tape measure wrong.

I tried again carefully.

Waist measurement・・・

87 cm!?

Metabolic Syndrome is one of the most major topics in medical & health field in Japan.
I don’t know much about Metabolic Syndrome in technical sense in medicine, but, according to the articles on the paper or the stories on TV, it sounds that Metabolic Syndrome is the result of gaining too much visceral fat, which could cause troubles in one’s health. The media gives a simple criterion to discern whether or not you are in Metabolic Syndrome. “Measure your waist. The acceptable length around the waist is 85cm for men and 90 cm for women.”

・・・Nobody has ever said nn is fat. So I got shocked to realize I’m too large.

Gotta go on a diet. Gotta do more exercise!

Ah, that reminds me that I’m going to join in a tennis club from next Saturday.

Have to improve my figure!

(1) Wait a minute!

"Wait. Wait. Wait a minute, Doc. Are you telling me ・・・that you invented Time Machine? Out of Delorean? "

Ah, that reminds me that I’m going to join in a tennis club from next Saturday."

上記のBakc to the futureの台詞もAre you telling me ・・・that you invented Time Machine? Out of Delorean?
