Farming experience

Today I went out to visit one of my xenoplastic relatives, who lives in the countryside in Kyoto. He has a small farm there and I took my family to see what it is like to grow vegetables in the countryside by avocation.

Arriving at his farm, we were surmised to know he’s doing it in much more professional manner than we initially imagined. It looked like a real farming business
This is the field of egg plant.

But the each egg plants were far bigger than ordinary egg plants that we see in a supermarket.

See!? It’s as large as my lower arm! Let me remind you that this is an egg plant!

Then, what do you think this is?

It’s not a loofah. It’s a cucumber!!
Again it’s as large as my lower arm!

According to his explanation, you don’t have to do anything special (e.g. genetic manipulation) to grow vegetables this big. “If you don’t harvest them in the right timing, then the vegetables keep growing,” he said.

All the vegetables that we reaped there were all delicious.
I don’t like vegetables that much, but those ones that we took in there were all great!

It was quite heavy labor to work hard to harvest them under the scorching sunlight.
It seemed that I recognized how hard it is to carry out the farming business. If I had a child, I should have my child experience what we did today. I thought it’d be very educational. And actually it was for us today.
