Yesterday I visited a multimedia content producing / publishing company to discuss business. There I happened to find them producing a movie for children. I asked who gave them the order to make the video. Then a staff of the production company told me that it was an order from a pharmaceutical company.

A pharmaceutical company?

There I learned that some pharmaceutical companies and medical-device manufactures in Japan place an order to such a production company for a movie designed for children.

Upon hearing it, at first I didn’t get it, not knowing why a pharmaceutical company needs a film for children.

So I asked why, and then they gave me the explanation below.

A patient with respiratory disease has to take medicine with his/her mouth covered with a respiratory apparatus for a long period of time. If the patient is a little child, s/he doesn’t sit still while taking such a treatment, trying to move around to reach out for anything that catches his/her attention. (A child patient is impatient! oyaji gag? Sorry!)
Anyway, above is what’s behind the story. When a pharmaceutical company sells drug for respiratory disease (especially of children) to a hospital, or when a medical-device manufactures sell treatment apparatus to a hospital, they also provide such videos for kids so that the buyer hospitals can use such drugs or medical apparatuses for children without trouble. Thus, such movies for kids are used as a kind of sales promotion tool by pharmaceutical companies and medical device manufactures.

I thought it was an interesting trivia. I gave it 10へぇ. How many HEYs do you give it?
