Oracle

【3:15 a.m.】
Good morning!

I had to visit Kyoto on business today. There’re many shrines and temples in Kyoto. On my way back to Osaka after finishing the meeting, I visited a shrine to make a wish to a god for my success in USCPA exam. (the last resort!)

I’m Buddhist. So it wouldn’t make sense, especially to non-Japanese people, when I make a wish to a Shinto shrine. But, such a casual manner of making a wish as this is a kind of traditional custom rather than something religious.

When I talked with a German professor the other day, he said Japanese people are very tolerant about religion. Rather I would say that, in Japan, traditional events, festivals or custom is one thing, and religious belief or behavior is another. Such culture of ours is often misunderstood by people from other countries and it sometimes causes even cross cultural skirmish or trouble. I’m sad…

Anyway, I , as many other exam candidates, made a wish in a traditional manner, hanging out an ema, or a pictorial offering plaque.

I wrote my wish on the back of the plaque.

Trying an omikuji, or paper fortune for consulting an oracle, is another traditional custom that you often do when you visit a Shrine. Of course I tried it.

The paper fortune offered in this Shrine is very unique. At first, nothing is written on the sheet when you get one.

But when you put the blank form on the water,

Then the oracle message appears slowly.

   It says,

>Study: Don’t worry. Keep on going.
>Your Wish: It’s difficult to achieve it. But it’d become easy from halfway in your process.

I’m relieved… I have only to do my best.

>Travel: Be careful not to be involved in a traffic accident

I have to be careful in my trip to Hawaii. But I don’t control the airplane on my own. How can I be careful? Maybe I can fasten the seatbelt as long as possible.

And whenever you try this sort of fortune telling stuff, you always pay SOME attention to the item below, whether you’re married or not.

>Romance: Your pain in mind is created by yourself. She doesn’t have in her mind anything you suspect she might have.

…. mmm. Unfortunately, I cannot think of any applicable situation around me.

   So, in summary,

God “Hey, nn. Don’t care anything else! All you have to do is focus on your study for USCPA exam. But be careful with traffic accident.

Ok. I’ll keep that in mind.
